ALI + JONO

"People think love should be mortally serious and full of drama. For me, love is light and laughter."

It was a challenge actually to shoot a friend's wedding. I mean, she was not only a friend to me but we have also worked together on numerous projects, therefore I know Ali has a brialliantly creative mind and I wanted to be able to bring her vision to life. When Ali asked me to cover and document her wedding, I was sceptical at first to accept it as I know I don't do weddings. Everything changed when she brought up the mood board and showed me what she wanted for her special day.

Again, thank you Ali and Jono for the trust. Truly honoured and humbled enough to be part and document your one-of-a-kind desert wedding🥂

Super stoked to work on this project with my two buddies, Anjo and Gab, both professional videographer and fashion photographer to document the wedding with me on a New Year's day and night on the Arabian desert. #sandpitsquad2017

Firstly, it’s really important to understand that I do not shoot weddings, but if I do, I do it as a photojournalist.  I don’t shoot “traditional” wedding photography. There is absolutely nothing wrong with more traditional styles of wedding photography of course. However, I choose to shoot in an unstaged, un-contrived way and the way my cameras are configured and way I shoot support this. To this end, where possible, I use natural or available light and tend not to use Flash photography …but we will get to that.
